Welcome to GoUTMB.com, the
emergency alternate site for the UTMB School of
Allied Health Sciences. If a catastrophic event disables the ability
for UTMB.edu to provide web-based services for any length of time, this will be
our backup site.

In the event of disaster or emergency
weather conditions:
Monitor local television and radio stations
including KTRH 740 AM in Houston.
In the event of a prolonged evacuation:
In the event a major storm reaches Galveston and disrupts UTMB’s academic
enterprise, both the UTMB and SAHS Emergency Plans will be activated. The
purpose of this communication is to introduce you to the objectives and major
features of the SAHS Emergency Plan in the extreme case that the island is
uninhabitable for an extended period of time.
Should we need to relocate, an agreement with the UT Health Science Center –
San Antonio School of Allied Health Sciences is already in place to permit each
of our programs to continue the education mission of our students, faculty and
staff.
UTHSC–SA is providing assistance with the following:
-
Use of classroom, laboratory, and office space
-
Computer and library facilities
-
Sites for preceptorships and clinical rotations
-
Parking, short term temporary housing, and other logistical needs are in
process.
Communications
A systematic, reliable means of communication is essential for the successful
implementation of such a plan. Use of the internet to maintain a continuously
monitored SAHS web site, plus the operation of a reliable email system are key
features of the plan.
In the event electronic connections to Galveston are disrupted, UTMB may
activate back up computer services located in other Texas cities. Depending on
the severity of damage, the process may take a number of days, with mission
critical applications being the first to be restored.
In this case, SAHS will activate an alternate electronic communication site
located here at www.GoUTMB.com. This site will provide current messages and
instructions on what to do. It will also provide access to an alternate email service
(see GoUTMB Webmail Instructions).
The command to continue our mission in San Antonio will be given only after a
major storm reaches Galveston and its effects are determined. Nonetheless,
everyone is urged to prepare now for a worst case scenario, including plans to
relocate.
